Community Outreach Projects 2024
Seeds of Disruption and Art Club
Art Club is an award winning, youth-led and free creative project based in Woodburn Dalkeith for 8 - 14 year olds. This year young people from Art Club have created their own charity called Seeds of Disruption SCIO. Art Club will now become one of their projects and they are looking to raise funds to continue their work. Seeds of Disruption charitable purposes are to advance community development, citizenship, arts, culture and education. Young people will create their own opportunities locally and continue to collaborate with their allies, partners and friends. When you buy one of their products you are supporting young people in our community to take action, direct their own learning and contribute to making the local community awesome. Seeds of Disruption is free and open to anyone aged 8-25 who lives or goes to school in Midlothian.
INVOLVEMENT
Bird Sculptures
Young people aged 8 - 14 from Art Club have created a series of bird sculptures that will be showcased this year! In a series of workshops they developed the design, made their own patterns, sewed the pieces and constructed the birds. Unused fabric donated by the community makes up the patchworked creations. See if you can find them all! Art Club will also be running a real time bird sculpture
design and build project at the Marketplace of Ideas, that will join their bird friends over the weekend.
Marketplace of Ideas - SAT and SUN
Art Club will have a stall selling their products to raise money for their new Seeds of Disruption SCIO. All designed and made by young people aged 8 - 14. We will also be making a bird for the bird sculpture trail in real time! Collectively decorated, constructed and installed over the weekend. Drop in for badge making. braid workshops and the bird sculpture build.

The Mayfield & Easthouses Y2K Project
The Mayfield & Easthouses Y2K Project was established in 2000 thanks to local businesses and community members. The project works with young people aged 11-21. Y2K works with over 500 young people each year and offer a variety of services, including drop-in sessions, separate programs for boys and girls, support for young people at risk of becoming involved in harmful or offending behaviors, and one-on-one mentoring.
Involvement: Community Weave Project
Y2K was involved in the community weave project where Vogrie Pogrie artists came to their drop in to offer the opportunity to learn to weave. Young people wove a collaborative piece with scraps from recycled materials. It will be part of the community weave display at Vogrie Pogrie 2024.
Mayfield Primary School
Local Primary School in Mayfield, Midlothian.
Involvement: Community Weave Project
Over 50 children from Mayfield Primary School contributed to the community weave project. Artists from Vogrie Pogrie visited the school and children learnt how to weave. They created their own works of art made out of rescued rags that were destined to become landfill. Now they will be woven into the tapestry of decor at this year’s festival and be showcased as part of the community weave project.
InSpire Crafts - Meet the Artist Project 2024
This year, Bex has been working with individuals and small groups that are often under-represented & don't always have the opportunity to participate and have their work shown.
The artists for this project have all chosen woodland animals to collage out of discarded materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.
Each of these giant creatures will be displayed around the festival site with a poster and message from the Artist themselves.
