A place to learn and connect with all the wonderful activities that are happening in our community. Join one of our talks, demos or conversations and you may leave with an exciting new hobby, project or even career! All ages and abilities are welcome. Vogrie Pogriversity is a place where we can all learn from each other and contribute from our own life experiences.

Why is play so important? Come along and hear about how play develops children emotionally, physically and socially. It’s pretty great for adults too! Learn how you would get started in a career in play and what upcoming courses are available. Meet play workers from Play Midlothian and learn about their work in the community and play sessions you can join.

Strengthening Communities Through Film
Erin Fulton, director of Film Start Scotland and a new Vogrie Pogrie workshop leader will share her stories of using film as a way of working with young people, charities and community groups. Her work has helped communities explore stories and issues which matter to them and has been used to articulate shared visions particularly around climate action. Join the conversation, learn from each other's work and find out more about using the powerful medium of film.

How to become a beekeeper
Do you occasionally have fantasies about keeping bees? Meet the Newbattle Beekeeping Association! See a hive up close, meet other beekeepers and learn all about the local clubs and courses. Everyone is welcome, even if you're only slightly curious about bees.

Emerse yourself in the Vogrie Pogrie story, how it started and how it’s evolving. If you're an artist, find out about how you could be involved next year. Learn about how Vogrie Pogrie can support funding applications for community projects and how we can work together to make the festival even more awesome in 2025.

Turning sheep into yarn
Learn how to process fleece to make yarn in this interactive demonstration. Spinner Laura Baigrie will take you on a whirlwind tour from freshly sheared fleece to freshly spun wool, with plenty to touch and smell along the way. There’ll be information on local groups you can join, where to find resources, and encouragement to start your own spinning journey!

Community Barter
A fun session where we will aim to meet as many needs as possible in under an hour. Do you have something to offer, do you have something you need? Let's try and make it happen.

Writing Workshop
All abilities welcome! Join Yvonne Dalziel from Tyne Esk Writers and local author Michelle Hogg for a fun writers workshop. This is a relaxed and informal session where you can try out some writing techniques and learn about your local writing community. If you’re feeling brave, you could even join in with the writers open mic later in the afternoon. Tyne Esk Writers will have a community bookshop at the Market Place of ideas where you can support local authors and maybe even get your book signed!

Writers Open Mike
Join us to celebrate local writers at our open mike session! Listen to their work and hear their stories. A great opportunity to learn from and connect with the writing community. If you're a writer there will be 7 minute slots to share your work in a friendly and supportive environment. The event will end at 6:00 pm but feel free to stay, network and share until the sun goes down.
